SUMMARY:The Relevance of Buddhism to the Modern World
DESCRIPTION:Free Public talk \n| A conversation between Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche and Matthieu Ricard \n| What does a contemplative tradition of more than two thousand years have to offer a world of accelerating change\, distraction and uncertainty? Join us for an evening in the company of two remarkable teachers. \nSHECHEN RABJAM RINPOCHE \nShechen Rabjam Rinpoche is one of the most highly revered masters in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and an important holder of its major lineages. Grandson and spiritual heir of the great Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (1910–1991)\, he spent almost 25 years with his teacher and grandfather\, receiving extensive teachings\, empowerments and transmissions\, and continues that lineage today through his activities. \nRinpoche has not taught in Australia since 1996. He is greatly loved wherever he goes for his generosity\, his modern approach\, and his warm and endearing presence. \nMATTHIEU RICARD \nBorn in France in 1946 as the son of French philosopher Jean-François Revel and artist Yahne Le Toumelin\, Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk\, author\, translator\, and photographer. He first visited India in 1967 where he met great spiritual masters from Tibet. After completing his Ph.D. degree in cell genetics in 1972\, he moved to the Himalayan region to study and practice the Buddhist path. He served as Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s translator for more than twenty years. \nMatthieu is an international best-selling author and a prominent speaker on the world stage\, celebrated at the World Economic Forum at Davos\, forums at the United Nations\, and ad TED where his talks on happiness and altruism have been viewed by over seven million people. He will translate for Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche throughout this visit. \nDETAILS \nThursday 22 October 2026 · 7.00–9.00pm \nLower Town Hall\, 483 George Street\, Sydney \nFree · In person \nThe talk is open to everyone. No prior study or Buddhist background is needed. Please register so that we can plan seating. \n

SUMMARY:What is Dharma for?
DESCRIPTION:In this evening online talk\, Khenpo Tashi\, invites us to reflect on the ultimate purpose of the Buddha’s teaching; exploring what it offers us today and how it relates to our ordinary lives. \nFor many\, Buddhism is associated with meditation\, mindfulness\, or compassion. Yet these are only part of a much broader path of understanding and transformation. What is it that the Dharma ultimately points towards? And how does it relate to the way we live our ordinary lives? \nIn this online public talk\, Khenpo Tashi explores these timeless questions with the clarity\, warmth\, and depth for which he is widely appreciated. Whether you are simply curious about Buddhism or have been practising for many years\, this evening offers an opportunity to reflect on what the Dharma is\, why it matters\, and how it can illuminate our lives. \nAbout Khenpo Tashi\nKhenpo Tashi trained at Namdroling Monastery under the guidance of his root teacher His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. For the past fourteen years\, at the request of Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche\, he has served as the principal teacher of the Rigpa Shedra in Pharping\, Nepal\, where he teaches the classical curriculum of Sutra and Tantra to hundreds of students\, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Over the past four years\, his online teachings have reached an ever-wider audience within the Rigpa community and beyond. \nWidely appreciated for the depth of his learning\, the precision and clarity of his explanations\, and his ability to make profound teachings genuinely accessible while remaining deeply rooted in the tradition\, Khenpo Tashi teaches with a rare combination of scholarship\, warmth\, and practical insight.
